Global Citizen India was launched in September 2016 and executed the first festival on November 19, 2016 in Mumbai.
We are so excited to announce the first accountability report from Global Citizen India! As we mark six months from the Festival, it is important to us that we evaluate where the commitments stand: where impact is being made, which commitments are on track, and which ones are at risk and require further attention. In this report, we have provided updates on all the 25 commitments that were made on our Global Citizen Festival India stage in November 2016.
Global Citizen’s events and festivals provide a global stage for change. Political leaders, influencers and captains of industry have the opportunity to directly respond to the collectove voices of Global Citizens engaged around the world.
The Global Citizen Festival has a unique capacity to use pop culture to bring forth many issues to the tens of thousands in attendance, and to the billions globally through social media connections. The movement stands to serve as an annual accountability moment for individuals, governments, civic leaders, and corporates alike, urging them to not only recognise the problems, but also be a part of the solution.
Our 2016 Festival featured leaders, artists and influencers such as Hon’ble PM Modi, Minister Iyer, CM Fadnavis , PM Poonam Mahajan, Ratan Tata, Sachin Tendulkar, Coldplay, Jay Z, Amitabh Bachchan, Shakh Rukh Khan, AR Rahman, Arijit Singh and many more.
A community is greater than the sum of its parts. It crowd-sources issues that need addressing, as well as a range of possible solutions. It provides support to voices that need it, and encourages timid voices to join the crowd. A community garners credibility to the cry for change, and inspires those within it: we are moving forward, and together. Today, our community of Global Citizens in India consists of more than 500,000 individuals united to use their collective voices for social good. We are so proud that they joined us on this journey, and we hope you will too.
We want to extend a big Thank You to all our sponsors who have shown an unwavering support to end extreme poverty and joined us in the journey to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Without your generosity and forward-looking perspective, this would never have been possible!
